“Finding your passion after retirement - Susy Ward Ceramics”
Susy Ward is an effervescent, 78 year old studio potter based in Cornwall. It wasn’t until her 50s that Susy tried her hand at pottery (and ultimately fell in love with it). Her story is a brilliant reminder that it’s never too late to discover a new passion or begin a new chapter in life. Before becoming a potter she was “an adventurer, a parent, an entrepreneur, worked in insurance, was a banker and a cook”.
She doesn’t churn out the same pieces time and time again, but is instead driven by what inspires her in a given moment. This means that every piece of Ward’s has a limited edition, one of a kind feel to it.
“Inside the Jo Bear Boots Atelier”
Jo and her husband, Jose, work with local artisans and small family factories to produce historically accurate shoes, from the medieval era to the mid-20th century. Whether for the film industry or vintage enthusiasts, Jo Bear’s boots and shoes are consciously designed using natural materials to create pieces that are as camera-ready as they are comfortable for everyday wear.
"It's what this small batch production allows us to make. We can make one pair of boots, for that person, in whatever colour they want, to their measurements, to their height, to try and include everyone... and you know exactly where it's come from"
